Urticaria refers to a group of disorders affecting adults and children, in which red patches and weals occur in the skin. The release of chemicals such as histamine from mast cells in the skin causes small blood vessels leak and results in tissue swelling. The stripes may be millimeters or centimeters in diameter, white or red, often surrounded by a red flare, and often itchy.

Urticaria Treatment – Causes

Hives are very common, especially among people who have experienced other allergic reactions. The eruptions usually occur in batches. Release of histamine and other chemicals in the blood associated with the reaction Allergic causes itching, localized swelling and other symptoms. Many substances called allergens, can trigger the reaction allergic.

Urticaria Treatment – Symptoms

High red and white spots appear on the skin. They are accompanied by burning, intense itching and tingling. Rubbing and scratching usually worsen the situation. The outbreak of urticaria is sudden and the disease can affect any part or the whole body. The eruptions may be as small as pin heads or as large as a rupee. Eruption may disappear in a few minutes or an hour in one place but may appear in another.

Urticaria Treatment -Diagnosis

Usually appearance, or a description thereof will be enough for your doctor to diagnose. In the vast majority of people no cause can be found, if your doctor will ask questions to try and identify. There is no special test that can reliably identify the cause of hives, but some tests may be done if your answers suggest an underlying cause.

Urticaria Treatment -Treatment

The best urticaria treatment is to find and eliminate the cause whenever possible. Antihistamines are prescribed to relieve and work best if taken as per a regular schedule to prevent hives from forming. There are many antihistamines available. No one antihistamine works for everyone. The dermatologist can use combinations to control the hives. In severe cases, an injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) may be necessary. Cortisone can also help considerably, but its use should be limited to short periods of time.

Often it is treated only with a limited exposure to triggers such as exercise or heat. For some, the reaction may be limited by making wear light clothing breathable allowing the body to stay cool. Also, gradually warming the body with light exercise first can help limit the effects in some people. Since an attack can often be felt in the next, it can sometimes be interrupted by rapid cooling, as the application of cold water or a bag of ice on the skin.
