Hives Remedy – Natural Treatment for Hives

Hives are red and itchy sometimes hits the skin. An allergic reaction to a drug or food usually causes them. Allergic reactions cause the body to release chemicals that can make your skin swell up in hives. People who have other Allergies are more likely to get hives than other people. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in different shapes and sizes. They vary in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter. Hives can be round, or may form rings or large patches. Wheals (hives), red lesions with a red cross “outbreak” in the border are another manifestation of hives. Hives can appear anywhere on the body, like the trunk, arms and legs.

Urticaria is the body’s response to allergens. In general, it seems a rash or hives, as in the skin and occur after exposure to an allergen to which the organism is susceptible. Common allergens that cause hives include fish, dairy products, nuts, food additives, flavorings, preservatives, penicillin and aspirin. The stress, temperature extremes, pressure on the skin and insect bites can also cause hives to appear.

Hives result of dilation of capillaries allowing fluid to seep into the surrounding tissue, the epidermis. They resolved when the body absorbs the liquid. The border of a hive is described as polycyclic, or compound from many quarters, and the changes as fluid leaks and then absorbed. The pressure in a hive causes the skin to blanch distinguishing it from a bruise or papule.

Make a paste with 2 cups of oatmeal and 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. Add a little water to make a paste. Apply to the affected area for 15-30 minutes. It dries the hives up within a couple of hours.

Dabbing milk of magnesia on the lesions, provides some relief. As milk of magnesia is an alkaline solution that helps eliminate irritating itching sensation.

To calm the nerves (which will calm their hives), you may want try drinking herbal tea, said Thomas Squier, president of the Botanical Gardens Educational Services in Aberdeen, North Carolina, and a Cherokee herbalist. Peppermint is recommended or passionflower tea. The chamomile, valerian, catnip and other common sedative herbal teas.

Oatmeal can be really useful for hives. Pour a cup of boiling water over one tablespoon oatmeal. Let stand for thirty minutes. Strain and then apply the liquid in your hives with a cotton ball. This also works to revive the insect bites. Refrigerate the solution and use that in a few days. You can also do this in bulk and put it in the water bath (about four cups of water and four tablespoons of oatmeal.)
